Personal Language Learning

Personal Language Learning is the need of the day. The two day National Symposium and Workshop organized by Smt.Sadguna Arts College, GLS, Ahmedabad was an answer to many queries and questions us teachers of English have had regarding the use of technology in our classrooms. As teachers it is not sufficient to upgrade our knowledge but not pass it on our students. Web tools of many different kinds were introduced to the participants without the bondages of technical lexicon and jargon. Almost all the teachers were not as techno savvy as they were at the end of the Workshop. There were hands on training sessions and each and every participant was individually attended to. The creation of personal websites and blogs were the key factors of the event. All the Resource persons were well-equipped in their knowledge and friendly in their approach. Hope we have many more such events.

Is it all about money?

Money, yes i know it is one of the most important aspects of our life but i firmly believe that it is just a small area of our concerns and should never take the centre stage. But when we look around we find that everything and everyone are so much into its grip that they can not imagine that there can be life beyond the green/orange coloured notes. I do not deny the power of money because i am also under its spell, but i do try to keep my feet grounded so that i like all others donot get carried away. These thoughts about money have started haunting me since the Gujarat elections. Therein our 'Honorble' CM ( "common man") had harped on the large scale economic development of Gujarat & inticed the commmon man to fall for his business tactics. And the reality is that he finally did win!!!! So it made me wonder whether economy is the only thing that should determine the character of a person? Should we simply forget Godhra and what followed? How can he get away with these obvious horrors listed in his account? Well here in Guj whenever you try to talk a different language there are more than enough voices to silent you. There has to be some people who can show us the way out of this. Let's pray that tomorrow will be a different day.

There are so many things that i feel like talking about. What concerns me most are those primary issues like religion or i shall say spirituality, the very common yet highly unpredictable world of marriage, the myth of happiness, and the desire for peace. I have been thinking for quiet some time about all of these or one at a time. Recently i've been reading a very interesting book titled Tao of Physics by Capra and therein i've found many of my beliefs and understanding being voiced. I so much agree with capra when he says that the world cannot be divided into 'this' & 'that', the entire universe and everything in it is essentially inter-related and inter-connected. You cut a tree and your hand bleeds, that is what i definitely believe in. So when these religious leaders and their political counterparts try to divide us on as many lines as they can think of I get so perturbed that i become speechless. The only consolation is that thre are many people cutting class, caste, religion, nation, line who think on the same lines. God according to me is a very personal belief. And ther can't be just one path to salvation. Each and every school of thought should be mutually acceptable to all. I hope that day comes soon.
